Gun Ownership

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

A lot of gun violence has been in the news over the last few weeks and many people are upset. My blog buddy BJ Stone has several recent posts about how the system is broke regarding gun laws. He has yet to call for an outright ban on guns, which I applaud him for, unlike some of the local pastors involved in the Peoria gun buyback program. Many people give BJ  Stone a hard time and label him as a “liberal” and think that is enough of an argument against him and his ideas. I cannot stand peoples inability to debate with people who differ politically with themselves. I have had a few good debates with BJ Stone, blogger Scott O’brien, and commenter ben, all of whom greatly differ with me in either their political or religious beliefs. The subjects that tend to bring out the most passion in people. Anyway, this post on BJ Stone’s site on whether there are too many guns in America is what I’d like to focus on in this post.

IRONY-incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result” Websters Dictionary

I was visiting Scott O’Brien’s Briar Patch discussing the Second Amendment and the MURDERS at Virgina Tech this past week. I was doing some research on gun laws in Virgina and I ran across this article form www.WorldNetDaily.com on 04/16/2007:

Virginia quashed bill allowing handguns on campuses

“Tech spokesman celebrated 2006 defeat because it would help make campus safe.

More than one year before today’s unprecedented shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, the state’s General Assembly quashed a bill that would have given qualified college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus.
