At the April 10 Peoria City Council meeting, portions of the Land Development Code for the Heart of Peoria Plan were passed. What does this mean? Well, C.J. over at The Peoria Chronicle explains much of what it means in several posts. To put it simply, Peoria is trying to adopt the ideas of New Urbanism . The goals of New Urbanism as stated by Wikipedia:

“Its goal is to reform all aspects of real estate development and urban planning, from urban retrofits to suburban infill. New urbanist neighborhoods are designed to contain a diverse range of housing and jobs, and to be walkable.”
